Hello all,

Ok thank you for this.

It is just that in talking with people from http://www.pr.dk on the phone I understood that they were able to sell me used silver coins (junk coins) without V.A.T.

I then spoke to Tavex and they said this was not possible.

Thank you for the help.

I am about to buy a few kilos of silver – and would rather not pay VAT if I can help it.

All the best,

Patrick

I have purchased used silver coins from pr.dk several times before. The price they tell you on the phone, and the price in their price list, is the price you pay including VAT. No extra fees or taxes. (Though a shipping fee will be added if you want them to send the coins by mail. The shipping fee varies with weight and value of the goods you purchase from them, and they will be able to tell you how much for shipping on the phone when you order.)

The price is including VAT, but VAT is not specified on the bill. This means that you cannot deduct the VAT, if you are a VAT-registered enterprise. For private persons this does not matter anyway.

What is confusing is that the price for junk silver at pr.dk (which includes VAT) happens to be about the same as the spot price for silver (which does not include VAT).

So Tavex is right when they say it is not possible to sell silver without VAT. But they do not want to tell you they have a competitor which sells junk silver at a much lower price than they charge for their new silver.

Hello there PMPirate…

Major thanks for this! It really helps! 😉

I am assuming that in terms of making a profit in the future the best idea is to buy “junk” silver at as close to spot price as possible (and where you only pay MOMS on the difference between purchase and sales price)??

In this case – I will ask you a direct question…. if you were going to buy e.g. 10 kilos of silver…. what type and where would you buy them? i.e. Bars / Coins / new / used / mix??

All the best,

Patrick

This is a matter of personal preference. Personally I prefer to buy junk silver at close to spot price, and most of my silver stack is junk silver. Others prefer to buy bars (which includes VAT, even for used bars, giving an initial downside of 20% on your investment here in Denmark. And others prefer to buy 1 ounce silver rounds in Germany where the VAT on silver coins is only 7%.

I actually just purchased 10 kilos of silver. This was in the form of 25 kilos of Swedish coins with 40% silver content from PR Mønter. I would have preferred to buy 12.5 kilos of Swedish coins with 80% silver content, but this is hard to get at a good price right now.
